This
pitch has been an exhibition for Test cricket. It had something in it
for everyone. The pacers got good purchase if they bent their backs, the
batsmen could score runs and the spinners came into play as well. On
that note, it is time to sign off. Do join us for the second and final
Test starting from the 25th at the P Sara stadium in Colombo. For now,
cheers and bye.. |
Herath:
I enjoy bowling here, I have done well here in the last two years. I
just wanted to stick to the basics and I was rewarded for that. |
Herath is the MoM for his 11/112 |
Mahela:
Herath has taken over the responsibility of the bowlling unit. He is
the leader of the pack, he has had a great time over the last two years.
The Test was very competitive for the first two days. Kulasekara got us
the big wickets early today. I love to bat over here, it is a great
venue and I enjoy batting here. Dilshan will walk straight back into the
side, but it was good for the youngster, Karunaratne. We need to give
them more chances for them to learn about the game better. |
Taylor:
We need to learn as fast as possible before the next match. I thought
we played Randiv well but need to plan against Herath. We just came off
the ODI series, no excuses about not having a practice match. I thought
our new ball bowlers bowled exceptionally well. The partnership between
Mathews and Mahela took the game away from us. We may make some changes
for the next Test, we will sit down and analyse. |
Not
much to worry about in the Lankan camp. They did have some trouble
early on when they were reduced to 50/5, but then bounced back in superb
fashion. The batting unit looks solid while the bowlers stuck to their
task. |
New Zealand will be
disappointed with their efforts. Their batting failed miserably on both
occassions and let their bowlers down very badly. Only McCullum and
Flynn got past fifties in the match, something that the team management
will not be pleased about. The team's losing streak continues. They lost
in the West Indies and India and they have made a losing start here
again. |
A good stand
between the two openers finishes off the job. But the work was done
early in the day by the bowlers, particularly Rangana Herath who set up
this win withing three days. |
18.3 | Doug Bracewell to Karunaratne, FOUR, SL win!,
short and angling down the leg, Karunaratne rolls his wrists and pulls
it very fine, beats the despairing dive from McCullum near the ropes. SL
win by 10 wickets |
18.2 | Doug Bracewell to Karunaratne, no run, fuller length delivery outside off and holding its line, left alone |
18.1 | Doug Bracewell to Karunaratne, FOUR,
fine shot! This was short and just outside off, Karunaratne gets on top
of the bounce, rolls his wrists around it and pulls it in the gap
between the two men in the deep. SL need just 4 more runs to win |
17.6 | Williamson to Karunaratne, 1 run, flighted on the pads, worked wide of mid-wicket for a single |
17.5 | Williamson to Karunaratne, 2 runs, fifty
for Karunaratne, his maiden Test fifty on his debut, this after bagging
a duck in his debut innings, clips one wide of mid-wicket for a couple.
The entire dressing room is up and happy for the youngster |
17.4 | Williamson to Karunaratne, no run, tossed up on off, Karunaratne gets forward in defence |
17.3 |
Williamson to Karunaratne, 2 runs, nicely done by Karunaratne, skips
down the track, takes it on the full and whips it wide of mid-wicket,
the fielder in the deep does well to limit them to a couple |
17.2 | Williamson to Paranavitana, 1 run, Williamson gives this one more air, pushed towards mid-on for a single |
17.1 | Williamson to Paranavitana, no run, flighted and on the pads, Paranavitana gets back in defence |
Kane Williamson, right-arm off break, comes into the attack |
16.6 | Doug Bracewell to Karunaratne, no run, another bouncer that Karunaratne ducks easily under. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
