New Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 and 311 review and first look with price details and specification.

Galaxy Tab 3 211 and 311

At the Samsung event today, the South Korean giant launched three models in its Galaxy Tab 3 range. We take a look at what features these devices offer.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 and 311: First Impressions

Samsung added three new tablets to its Tablet 3 portfolio today, the Tab 3 211, Tab 3 311 and Tab 3 310. The Tab 3 311 and Tab 3 310 have identical specifications, where the former is the Wi-Fi only variant,, and the latter the Wi-Fi +3G one.

Starting with the specifications of the Galaxy Tab 3 211, the device boasts of Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity and is priced at Rs. 17,745. It has 7-inch display with a 1024x600 pixel resolution and is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU coupled with 1GB of RAM. The device has 8GB built-in storage expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card. The rear of the tablet has a 3MP camera and the front has a 1.3MP camera for video chatting. The device is 9.9mm in thickness and weighs a mere 304grams. A 4000mAh battery powers the package which Samsung claims will support the device for up to 20 hours of talk time.

If you are someone who has used the Galaxy Tab 2, and if you are handed the Tab 3, you won’t notice a world of difference. The form factor of both the devices is the same and the Tab 3 211 has slightly better specifications. The device doesn’t support the ability to run two apps in multi-window, something we are using to doing on smaller screen devices such as the Galaxy Mega 5.8, Galaxy Note II and more. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 is an incremental upgrade when compared to the Tab 2. It is lighter and thinner but the difference isn’t noticeable to the naked eye.

Apart from TouchWiz UI, Samsung apps and the usual Samsung shenanigans, Samsung has introduced My Services. My Services offers users services such as My Education, My Offers, My Games, My Music, My Movies and My Education.

My Education: This service gives you access to educational content ranging from pre-school, school, high school, and even content for competitive exams. Students will have access to 2000 e-books and 1000 learning videos for students. You can read a sample of the educational content or purchase it with the simple click of the button.

My Music and My Movies: You have access to a large library of movies and music to choose from. You can access this content with “coins” each movie or song costs a certain number of coins. To put this in real world value, one coin is equal to one rupee.

My Offers: My Offers gives users access to deals and schemes available at stores listed near you. While using the app at the event, we saw that there were a few deals available on electronic items available at a near by Reliance Digital. The app features deals from 350+ brands and 25000+ merchants in India.
Moving on to the 8-inch tablet, the device is available in tow variants – Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+3G priced at Rs. 21,945 and Rs. 25,725 respectively. The specifications of both the tablets are identical. At the event, only the 8-inch Wi-Fi+3G version was showed off.

The Galaxy Tab 3 311 has an 8-inch display with a 1280x800 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it has a dual-core 1.5GHz processor along with 1.5GB of RAM. The rear of the tablet has a 5MP shooter and the front has a 1.3MP camera. It has 16GB built-in storage expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card. A 4,450mAh battery powers the entire package. The tablet is quite comfortable to hold and is very reminiscent of the Note 510. It doesn’t have Samsung’s S Pen stylus.

The tablet supports multi-window, which is to say that you can access two apps simultaneously on the large 8-inch display. The 8-inch Galaxy Tab also houses an IR blaster and can be used as a universal remote. In terms of connectivity options, you have the microUSB port at the bottom and the headphones jack at the top. The right houses the power button along with the volume rocker and the SIM card and MicroSD card slot rest on the left. The bottom of the tablet houses the two speakers as well. Apart from the standard QWERTY keypad, the tablet also has the ability to recognise your handwriting.

In our initial experience with the tablet, we found it to function quite smoothly, although we’re not sure what sort of market positioning Samsung is aiming for with the Tab 3 311, considering the Note 510 is available for Rs. 28,599 and is a much better proposition.

Samsung 7500 Smart TV First look (UA46F7500).

If you believe in the adage that "A TV isn't just a TV anymore", then the Samsung 7500 Smart TV series is the one you should be eyeing, and saving up the cash for. It has stunning looks, very good performance, neat set of Smart TV features and the razzle-dazzle of stuff like motion gesture and the new minimalistic remote control.

TV :

    Excellent performance
Very thin frame around the screen
    Built very well
    Minimalistic remote is brilliant
Onscreen UI is retained from the previous-gen

Features:

Smart TV features usually remain criminally underutilized at home
Gesture control may not be deployed on a regular basis

We thought the “number of cores” battle would be limited to laptops and smartphones. Samsung ensured that wasn’t going to be the case. First, they announced last year that the Smart Evolution kit would ensure users could upgrade the 2012 range of dual-core powered Smart TVs to quad-core. Now, the 2013 range of Smart TVs are quad-core from the outset. Does your smartphone or laptop have enough cores to match your TV? Shame if it doesn’t!

Build & Design: The showpiece for your living room
Samsung has been consistently improving the look of their Smart TVs, with every refresh. The F7500 has a very slim bezel around the screen, and almost gives the illusion of an edge-to-edge display. The previous generations’ designs had been giving indications for this, and it finally seems to be working. The silver finish on this frame looks fairly more premium than the piano black or the matte black finish seen on most flat panel televisions.

The F7500’s table top stand has been redesigned as well. It doesn’t have the arc design seen on last year’s TVs, and is lighter as well. The neck of the stand has the Samsung logo imprinted on it, but thankfully, it doesn’t illuminate! Illuminated logos on the front can be very annoying when you are watching TV with the lights turned off.

The F7500’s build quality is exquisite. The brushed aluminum finish on the bezel, chassis, and the stand looks very classy. Immediately, it stands apart from the bunch of TVs that get the black coloured finish. All is not metal though, as the rear half of the chassis is partly some very good quality plastic. The 46-inch television that we are testing here is 34.4mm thick, which basically puts it in the slim category. The sides are flat, despite being very thin. The clean design is very much evident, since there are no physical buttons on the front. On the top side sits the front facing camera, that is used for motion and gesture controls, as well as when you might be using an app like Skype.

In a nutshell, what we get is a very good looking television, which you would be proud to show off in the living room, and could very well become the center piece. Minimalism does go a long way in the world of clean and crisp designs, and Samsung has blended that with good quality materials and excellent build quality to complete the F7500’s package. We really cannot find much wrong with how this TV has been put together, and any fault finding will only tantamount to knit picking.

Features & Specifications: Loaded. Fully Loaded
The F7500 is a fairly-loaded Smart TV from Samsung. Let us look at the very basic connectivity options first. There are 4 HDMI inputs, along with one each of Component and Composite, with one shared between the two. You also get three USB hubs to connect external drives to, for direct media playback. While the TV has Wi-Fi, you also have the option of taking the wired route for the home sharing network. All connectivity options are placed on one side at the back, which will make them easier to access in case you have wall mounted the TV.

The F7500 is a 46-inch LED TV with a Full HD 1080p resolution. Samsung has implemented the Micro Dimming Ultimate feature, which makes certain scenes with major shadow areas look a lot more detailed. The panel is slightly on the reflective side, which means viewing angles are cut down a bit. But, colour shift is not very noticeable for a much larger degree of side viewing.

The most important feature of the Series 7 is the 1.3GHz quad-core processor, up from the dual-core power package from the 2012 series. This is pretty much taking the Smart TVs into a different league, at least when you compare this with the alternatives on the shop floor. But there is a rather valid apprehension – what will you do with a quad core processor in a TV? Well, we really didn’t see much difference in performance or the speed at which basic TV tasks were accomplished. Examples of this include changing sources, navigating the on-screen menu for making setting tweaks or flipping channels. Where the quad core does have an impact is when you are accessing the Smart TV functions and gesture, but that is a fairly limited sphere to have an impact on!

Samsung’s Smart Evolution Kit will enable better hardware on this very TV when you can buy the upgrades sometime down the line. Quad-core to an octa-core processor is an example.

Smart TV features have seen incremental updates over time. This all adds up to a major update, accumulated over time, when compared to the 2011 Smart TV that I own! But, the essence remains pretty much the same, with the focus being on apps. Better apps, more graphic intensive apps, but still apps nevertheless.

Starting off with the S4 Zoom, the smartphone has a 4.3-inch display with a 960x540 pixel resolution. It has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Now the display side of the smartphone has the display and looks pretty much like your average everyday smartphone. It is the rear of the device that looks really different. The rear of the device looks like a point and shoot camera. So, imagine the original Samsung Galaxy Camera with the ability to make calls. The S4 Zoom runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and has 8GB built-in storage of which a mere 5GB is user accessible, expandable via a microSD card. A 2330mAh battery powers the entire package.

The camera side of the S4 Zoom houses a 16MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor and 10x zoom. Samsung has bundled 25 different scene modes in the smartphone/camera hybrid including "HDR," "panorama," "night" and more. You also have access to third party apps Android camera apps to take advantage off.

The S4 mini has a 4.3-inch qHD (960x540 pixel resolution) super AMOLED display. It is pwered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor along with 1.5GB of RAM. It has 8GB of built-in storage expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card. The rear of the smartphone houses an 8MP camera and the front has a 1.9MP video-calling camera. The S4 mini supports Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS and NFC that will be available on the LTE version only in terms of its connectivity options. The phone also houses an IR blaster that which will help you use the smartphone as a universal remote. The S4 mini runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean skinned with TouchWiz. A 1900mAh battery powers the entire package.

As an introductory offer, the S4 mini comes with 2GB 3G data free per month for a period of 3 months from Reliance.

Google's latest Android 4"Ice Cream Sandwich OS to the Samsung Galaxy Wave S8500 Review.

Google’s latest Android 4 “Ice Cream Sandwich OS to the Samsung Galaxy
Wave S8500.

The hacking community is constantly engaged in pushing hardware farther than it can go. The latest example of their efforts is a “working port of Google’s latest Android 4 “Ice Cream Sandwich OS to the Samsung Galaxy Wave S8500.

This project clearly shows the strength of community in that this port possible thanks to the effort of many. While this project was undertaken by one person, but built on the effort of many hackers, the developer got funded for purchasing his Wave device through donations from others.
Currently the only the Samsung Wave S8500 is supported by this custom Android ROM, however the developer’s secondary target is to port it to the Wave II S8530 as well. Both these phones have been around for quite a while now, and are available at quite a good price considering their specifications.

The Samsung Wave S8500 was the first phone to feature Samsung’s own Bada operating system, but still has decent specifications (3.3” 480×800 screen, 5MP camera with 720p video recording support, 1 GHz Cortex-A8 processor). The only issue was that the phone runs Samsung bada, the uncertainty surrounding the future of that OS means that bada devices aren’t as popular as they might be based on hardware specs and price.

This gives Wave-owners a fresh breath of hope for their bada-devices by giving them the possibility of using an alternate OS.

You can find out more about the ROM, how to download it, how to install it, what works and what doesn’t at the developer’s website.
