IPL 6: KKR stay afloat as Pune limp to 11th defeat in IPL 6

Pune: Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders scored a convincing 46-run win over an ever-struggling Pune Warriors here on Thursday, to keep alive their outside hopes of qualifying for the play-off stage of the ongoing Pepsi Indian Premier League.

Opting to bat, KKR first rode on skipper Gautam Gambhir`s 50 and a late surge by Ryan ten Doeschate (31 off 21) to post a challenging 152 for six, and then dished out a clinical bowling performance to bowl out Pune for 106 in 19.3 overs.

By virtue of this win, KKR has moved up to 10 points from 12 games. But in order to stand in with an outside chance of making it to the play-offs, the defending champions need to win all their remaining three games.

Pune witnessed a horrible start to their run chase as their batsmen found the going tough against a disciplined KKR attack and scored just 41 runs for the loss of three wickets at the halfway stage.

Pune lost skipper Aaron Finch, star player Yuvraj Singh and Udit Birla in quick succession.

While Finch was bowled by Jacques Kallis (2/27), Yuvraj nicked an away going Laxipathy Balaji (3/19) delivery to Manvinder Bisla behind the stumps.

Birla`s stay at the crease was a struggle which finally came to an end when Iqbal Abdulla (2/26) went through his defence.

Robin Uthappa (31 off 35) tried hard to hung in there but the ever-climbing asking rate finally took its toll on him. He was caught by Gambhir at backward point off Abdullah.

Angelo Mathews played a rearguard 28-ball 40-run knock but that was not enough to save Pune from slumping to its 11th defeat in the tournament.

Mathews decorated his innings with four huge sixes before perishing in search of quick runs.

Earlier, Pune wasted a good start by leaking runs in the death overs to allow Kolkata Knight Riders post the challenging total.

KKR were in a spot of bother at 99 for five at one stage, but Pune bowlers gave away a whopping 53 runs in the final four overs to help the visitors cross the 150-run mark.

KKR reached fifty in quick time after electing to bat, thanks mainly to Gambhir (50 off 44).

Pune bowlers, however, managed to put brakes on KKR`s scoring by picking up wickets at regular intervals.

Bisla (12) was the first to depart stumped by Mahesh Rawat off Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/25).

Off-spinner Parveez Rasool (1/23), the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play in the IPL, leaked nine runs in his opening over.

But Rasool came back strongly in the next over and dismissed big man Kallis to pick up his first wicket of the tournament. Kallis was caught by Mathews at short cover of a fuller delivery from the off-spinner.

Gambhir, however, was steady at the other end and notched up his fifty in 43 balls with the help of six boundaries.

But Mitchell Marsh`s (2/7) two wickets in two overs changed the equation. Marsh first accounted for Eoin Morgan, who scored a run-a-ball 15, and then an over later he picked up the crucial wicket of Gambhir, caught by Mathews.

Yusuf Pathan too did not help his side`s cause as he departed cheaply. He edged one to wicket-keeper Rawat off Kumar while going for a booming cut.

With KKR in a tight corner, it took a quickfire knock from ten Doeschate, who played his first IPL match this year, to bail the visitors out.

Ten Doeschate used his long handle to great effect and smashed Mathews for a six and two fours to pick up 17 runs off the 17th over.

Ten Doeschate and Manoj Tiwary added 38 runs in 3 overs to provide some momentum to KKR`s innings.

Ten Doeschate finally perished, caught by Krishnakant Uphadyay off Kumar but not before decorating his 21-ball knock with three fours and one six.

Towards the end, Tiwary (15 not out off 10) and Rajat Bhatia (13 not out off 5) played short cameos to help KKR.

IPL 2013: Rajasthan beat Kings XI by 8 wkts, inch closer to play-offs

Mohali: Kevon Cooper scalped three vital wickets before Ajinkya Rahane scored an unbeaten half century to help Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab by eight wickets and inch closer to securing a play-off berth in the ongoing Pepsi Indian Premier League here on Thursday.

By virtue of this win, Rajasthan have moved to the second position in the team standings with 18 points from 13 games behind table toppers Chennai Super Kings (20 points).

Opting to field, Cooper picked up the wickets of Adam Gilchrist (42), Shaun Marsh (77) and danger man David Miller giving away just 23 runs off his four overs to help Rajasthan restrict Kings XI to 145 for six.

The visitors then rode on Rahane`s unbeaten 59 off 49 deliveries and useful contributions from Sanju Samson (47 not out) and Shane Watson (31) to chase down the target with an over to spare.

Rajasthan`s chase, however, did not start on a good note as they lost skipper Rahul Dravid early when he was cleaned up by left-arm spinner Bipul Sharma.

Rahane and Watson then shared 65 runs off 50 balls for the second wicket to set the platform for Rajasthan`s chase.

Just when it seemed the duo would run away with the game, Piyush Chawla went through Watson`s defence. The Australian all-rounder laced his 25-ball innings with three boundaries and one huge hit over the fence.

But that was all Kings XI could manage as Rahane and Samson played sensibly thereafter and mixed caution with aggression to guide Rajasthan home without any further damage.

While Rahane struck three fours and as many sixes during his knock, young Samson`s knock came off just 33 balls with the help of five hits to the fence and one over it.

Earlier, Rajasthan bowlers maintained discipline despite an attractive half-century by Marsh and an equally useful contribution from Gilchrist, to restrict Kings XI Punjab inside the 150-run mark.

Marsh and Gilchrist added 102 runs for the second wicket but Rajasthan bowlers, led by Cooper (3/23), put the brakes during the death overs.

The last seven overs of the innings produced only 45 runs and Kings XI lost five wickets in the process.

Ajit Chandila got a breakthrough in the first over when Mandeep Singh (0) lobbed a simple return catch to the bowler with not a run on the board.

Gilchrist, who had dropped himself from the playing XI, however, batted positively from the onset. He started off with a cover-drive off S Sreesanth.

A flurry off boundaries followed from Gilchrist's bat as he struck two meaty blows off Sreesanth's next over. When left-arm seamer James Faulkner came into bowl, he steered successive deliveries to the boundary with the home team taking off after the first over dismissal.

Marsh, who had come in after Mandeep's dismissal, was boosted by Gilchrist's counter-attack as he lofted Chandila for a six and followed that with a boundary. 14 runs came off the seventh over.

The 100 came up in the 13th over while Marsh duly reached his 50 off 44 balls as he played Faulkner towards fine leg.

However, soon after the century stand, Gilchrist was dismissed by West Indian Cooper as he committed early to a slower delivery. He faced 32 balls and hit six fours.

David Hussey (1) was castled by Watson but there was no stopping Marsh as he hit Faulkner over long-on for his second six and followed that with a cover-driven boundary.

When Cooper bowled Marsh with another slower delivery, he had faced 63 balls and hit six boundaries and two sixes.

Man of the moment, Miller, was also snapped up by Cooper with Rahane taking a catch at deep mid-wicket. The momentum was lost as Kings XI finished much below what was expected of them after being 100/1 after 13 overs.

IPL 2013: Rajasthan Royals remain invincible at home; beat DD by 9 wkts

Jaipur: Jaipur: Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane struck fluent half-centuries as Rajasthan Royals inched closer towards securing a play-off berth with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory against Delhi Daredevils in an Indian Premier League match, here on Tuesday.

Dravid led from the front with a classy 48-ball-53, his fourth half-century in this IPL edition, while Rahane played an equally impressive unbeaten knock of 63 as Royals maintained their impeccable record at home. They now have 16 points with eight wins and look like firm contenders for a berth in knock-out round.

Delhi Daredevils, whose season has gone from bad to worse stay put on eight position with six points.

Royals registered their seventh win at home with 13 balls to spare, scoring 155 for one. Shane Watson remained unbeaten on 14-ball 28, laced with three fours and one six.

Dravid and Rahane added 108 runs for the opening-wicket partnership in just 13.4 overs with the former India captain playing the more aggressive knock of the two.

In the process, Royals also registered their highest opening-wicket partnership in this edition of the IPL, surpassing 98 runs against Pune Warriors last week.

For Daredevils, Rohrer hit a fine 39-ball 63 under trying conditions while Mahela Jayawardene (34) and Kedar Jadhav (23 no) also chipped in with useful contributions to help their side post a competitive 154 for four but, in the end, the total did not prove to be enough.

Royals made a confident start to their run-chase with the trusted opening pair of Dravid and Rahane once again providing their team a good start.

Both made short work of Delhi bowlers and enthralled a near sell-out crowd with their vast repertoire of stroke-play.

Delhi's misery was further compounded by their butter-finger fielders when Rahane was dropped by Pawan Negi at extra-cover off Morne Morkel when the batsman was at an individual score of 4.

Rahane made full use of the reprieve and raised a century-plus partnership with Dravid. It was a treat to watch vintage Dravid show as he cut and drove Delhi bowlers to reach his second successive fifty in the tournament in just 45 balls.

The fact that Daredevils made as many as four changes in their bowling department for this game did not come to any help to them as the duo of Dravid and Rahane played them with utmost ease.

Dravid was finally out in the innings' 14th over when he was caught by Ajit Agarkar off Siddharth Kaul at long-on while going for an expensive pull. However, Rahane and Watson ensured that Royals remained invincible at home with an unconquered 47-run partnership for the second wicket.

Earlier, Rohrer put on display some innovative shots to single-handedly guide Daredevils past 150 runs, which looked unlikely at one stage with the visitors struggling at 78 for four.

He found an able ally in Kedar Jadhav (23 no, 21 balls, 2x4) and together in his company added an unbeaten 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The last five overs yielded 53 runs for the Daredevils.

Electing to bat under scorching heat, Delhi were off to a poor start as Virender Sehwag (11) and CM Gautam (2) were sent back to pavilion in quick succession with scorecard reading 22 for two.

Sehwag looked in good touch, hitting James Faulkner for two consecutive fours, before the lanky Australian pacer flummoxed him with a slower ball which swung in uprooting the off-stump.

Sehwag, as usual, committed himself to the shot a tad too early playing across the line.

Gautham, playing his first IPL match, departed in the very next over as he chased a wide delivery outside his off stump to give a simple catch to wicket-keeper Sanju Samson off Shane Watson.

Skipper Jayawardene held one end strongly and, in the company of David Warner (13), tried to resurrect the innings while picking up a few occasional boundaries. That included four hits to the fence off Shaun Tait's second over.

However, Warner failed to contribute much to the team's cause and was caught by Sachin Baby off Stuart Binny at extra cover just before the first strategic time-out.

Rohrer tried to break the shackles with two successive fours off Mumbai leg-spinner Pravin Tambe, who became the oldest IPL debutant at 41 years and 212 days.

Jayawardene too tried to free his arm and hit Siddharth Trivedi for a six over mid?off before he ran out of patience and gifted his wicket at a crucial juncture.

Jayawardene failed to read the line of the ball and landed Dravid an easy catch at mid-wicket off Trivedi. At 78 for four, Rohrer took the onus on himself and mixed caution with aggression to take the team’s total past 150-run mark.

How to Turn Off Fade and Pop-Up Animated Effects in Mac OS X

How to Turn Off Fade and Pop-Up Animated Effects in Mac OS X

Call me a cynic, but it feels like OS X is a little showy with its visual effects. Dialog boxes and some program windows pop onto the screen from nowhere. This design mirrors the iPod and iPad user experience. On a larger screen, however, the effect can be unsettling.

Wouldn’t it be nice if things just appeared on screen with no fuss, like they did in the good old days? Here’s how you can turn off the majority of OS X’s visual effects. Pop-Up Windows and Dialogs To turn off dialog boxes and windows that spring out from the middle of the screen, open a Terminal window (FinderApplicationsUtilitiesTerminal) and type the following:

defaults write -g NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled -bool FALSE

Then log out and back in again for the changes to take effect. To restore the effect, open a Terminal window and type the following, logging out and back in again afterward to make the changes take effect:

 defaults delete -g NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled

Quick Look windows appear when you select a file and hit Space . They show a preview of the file’s contents. You can stop Quick Look windows from springing up from the file in question by typing the following into a Terminal window (this change will also remove the effect of the Quick Look window shrinking back into the file):

defaults write com.apple.finder QLPanelAnimationDuration -int 0;killall Finder

The change will take effect immediately. To restore the effect, open a Terminal window and type the following (again, the change will take effect immediately):

defaults delete com.apple.finder QLPanelAnimationDuration;killall Finder

 Mission Control

To turn off  the Mission Control  zoom effects that  appear whenever it’s activated and deactivated, open a Terminal window and type the following:

 defaults write com.apple.dock expose-animation-duration -int 0;killall Dock

The changes take effect immediately. Note that this also removes the animated effect of windows zooming out of the way when Show Desktop is activated (usually via the “finger spread” trackpad gesture). To revert to the default animated Mission Control effects, open a Terminal window and type the following:

defaults delete com.apple.dock expose-animation-duration;killall Dock

File and Print Dialog Boxes

To stop the Save and Print dialog boxes from sliding out and down from the title bar of each application, open a Terminal window and type the following:

defaults write -g NSWindowResizeTime -float 0.01

You’ll need to log out and in again for the changes to take effect. If you wish to reintroduce the visual effects at a later date, type the following, logging out and back in again afterward for the changes to take effect:

 defaults delete -g NSWindowResizeTime

Launchpad

A hidden setting can be tweaked to make Launchpad appear and disappear instantly. To activate it, open a Terminal window (FinderApplications UtilitiesTerminal) and type the following two lines, hitting Return  after each:

defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-show-duration -int 0

 defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-hide-duration -int 0;killall Dock

The changes take effect instantly. To revert to the previous animated effect, open a Terminal window again and type the following two lines:

 defaults delete com.apple.dock springboard-show-duration

defaults delete com.apple.dock springboard-hide-duration;killall Dock

You can also reduce the amount of time the individual app list pages of Launchpad take to scroll in and out. Open a Terminal window and type the following if you want the pages to slide in and out instantly:

defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-page-duration -int 0;killall Dock

The changes take effect immediately. To revert back to the default, open a Terminal window and type the following:

 defaults delete com.apple.dock springboard-page-duration;killall Dock

Dock

The Dock can be hidden so that it slides off the screen when not being used. This saves a little screen space. Nudging the cursor against the edge of the screen where the Dock is normally positioned will make it slide back into view again. To turn this feature on or off, right-click the dashed lines between the main Dock icons and the stacks and select Turn Hiding On or Turn Hiding Off.

To make the Dock instantly leap back into view when it’s needed, rather than slide, open a Terminal window and type the following:

 defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -int 0;killall Dock

To revert back to the default sliding effect, open a Terminal window and type the following:

defaults delete com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier;killall Dock
